NCAT offers a broad range of courses in music, from solo and group performance, to sound production and music industry skills
Our focus is on contemporary music, in all it's exciting forms
NCAT Music cultivates a vibrant atmosphere for student exploration and development, guiding artistic and technical skills for further education with tertiary institutions, TAFE institutions or specialist education providers in music.

Students can elect to study music as a specialisation or as an elective within VCE, VCAL, or VET streams. Combinations of these can be tailored to suit the individual student.

Student Testimonials (Certificate III in Music Industry)

“What I liked most about music at NCAT was being able to push myself in situations that I wasn’t usually comfortable in. In my two years doing a Vet course here (NCAT), I have become comfortable on stage.”

“What I liked most about music at NCAT was the fact that I was able to meet people who were just as passionate about music as I was.”

“What I liked most about music at NCAT was the teacher’s support, the flexibility and the musical diversity and acceptance.”

“What I liked most about music at NCAT was playing music I wouldn’t normally play. It was a challenge but it opened up an aspect to music that I wasn’t really aware of.”

Music can be studied as a range of VCE subjects, and combined with VET Music programs within the VCE.

The College has an audition based entry requirement in music to help advise students about possible pathways and subject combinations.

Integrated VCAL

The course is designed to allow students to focus on music, covering both performance skills, and technical production skills.
It encourages self expression and collaboration, using many different processes and tools, from instruments and computers, to voices and electronic equipment.
There are opportunities for very diverse and inclusive styles of performance, organised in a student oriented way, in professional venues.
Students may specialise in event organisation, song writing, and band or solo performance.

Students study VCE Music Performance, VET Music Performance, Communication & Collaboration in the Arts, Staging & Business in the Arts, and usually VET Sound Production.
