Building and Construction (Painting and Decorating) enables you to:

Learn basic building and construction concepts, theory and terminology

Use Painting & Decorating tools and equipment to demonstrate skills for various team tasks and individual projects

Gain an understanding in surface preparation, paint application techniques, stain and clear timber finishes, application of protective coatings to metal surfaces, applying wallpaper, spray application techniques and mixing paint colours

/

Work safely at heights (using scaffolding, ladders and trestle systems)

/

Work safely in the construction industry

Course Structure

The 22614VIC Certificate II in Building and Construction (Painting & Decorating) Pre-apprenticeship is an introduction to the Building and Construction industry and a pathway into an apprenticeship in this area. The course helps students make an informed choice of vocation or career path.

The program is delivered to NCAT students as a pre-apprenticeship program from Year 11 to Year 12. This course is a Certificate II with 9 core units related to the Painting & Decorating industry and 8 elective units introducing Painting & Decorating. It covers basic knowledge in safety and basic Painting & Decorating skills to prepare students for work in the building & construction industry.

Many of our students are offered jobs or apprenticeships either during their Structured Workplace Learning placement or when they complete the course.

COURSE DELIVERY
The course can be completed either as a NCAT Pre-apprenticeship student over two years as a VCE VM student. If a NCAT Year 11 Pre-apprenticeship student completes the first year it is a partial completion and they will receive a statement of attainment.

*Students will be enrolled for the first aid unit with 1 SDO TRAINING (RTO Number 41558). Their trainers will deliver the unit at NCAT and 1 SDO TRAINING issues the Statement of Attainment

Assessment

Practical project work assessed by observation and questioning, and written tasks are all assessed using set criteria.

Students are required to undertake a minimum of 80 hours of Structured Workplace Learning.

Students will be given a fair and adequate assessment process that includes multiple opportunities to demonstrate competency.

Eligibility & Prerequisites

A minimum sound achievement of Year 10 Maths and English or equivalent and an aptitude for practical work is recommended. If you have individual needs, please contact the college.

This course is currently only available to students who are enrolled to study full-time at NCAT.

Study and Vocational Pathways

The course is an excellent foundation in the construction industry and a pathway for Certificate III in Painting & Decorating and an apprenticeship.
