The College is recognised for quality curriculum design and engaging VET programs across the arts, trades and technologies. As a provider of vocational training with a highly successful track record, the College has earned the trust and respect of surrounding colleges and high schools. Working as a consortium, the College and supporting schools pooled funding resources to build the College’s Trade Training Centre. These state-of-the-art facilities are accessible to the College’s full-time students as well as part-time student enrolment from supporting schools.

Swinburne University of Technology – Direct Entry

Swinburne University of Technology will offer a direct pathway to a range of design courses for graduates of Northern College of the Arts and Technology’s (NCAT) renowned Folio Preparation program.

NCAT Folio Preparation is a unique portfolio preparation program that has been delivering quality design and visual arts education for 30 years, providing art or design skills and knowledge for students seeking entry into university courses in the creative industries.

The program offers a vocational education and training (VET) based alternative to ATAR-score based university entry through a Certificate IV in Visual Arts or Certificate IV in Design.

From its inception, NCAT Folio Preparation has been integral in planting the seeds for diverse, inspiring and passionate careers in Melbourne’s vibrant creative industries. It produces independent, creative thinkers and it is these 21st century critical thinking skills that better prepare students for the transition to university.

New Pathways

As of November 2019, Swinburne now offers direct pathways from NCAT Folio Preparation to a range of courses including:
– Diploma of Visual Arts
– Diploma of Graphic Design
– Diploma of Interior Design
– Diploma of Visual Merchandising
– Certificate IV in Digital and Interactive Games

These courses can lead students into a further study option, such as:
– Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts
– Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) (Hons)
– Bachelor of Innovation and Design, Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) (Hons)
– Diploma of Digital and Interactive Games
