We were honoured to officially name our performing arts auditorium after Aunty Dedrie Baksh — a fierce advocate, trailblazer and deeply respected Elder whose impact has shaped generations of young people.
The celebration was filled with pride, culture and respect, including the presentation of a possum skin cloak. We heard heartfelt tributes from Alister Thorpe, Kutcha Edwards, Robbie Thorpe and Raffaela, our Principal, alongside great performances from Amos Roach, Deniece Hudson, Dave Arden and our NCAT music staff.
Aunty Dedrie’s legacy at our school is extraordinary — from creating safe, culturally strong spaces for Koori students, to leading the Rebel School during the closure, ensuring young people stayed connected to education when it mattered most.
Today, her name lives on in a space that reflects what she believed most — that culture, community and the arts create belonging. Aunty Dedrie, your legacy lives in every student who finds their voice here.
